Olen nyt asunut Kambodzassa yhteensä jo 3 vuotta ja tämä maa yllättää vieläkin monilla erilaisilla kulttuuri eroilla.

Rakastuin täällä asumiseen monista eri syistä!

Halusin jakaa teidän kanssa 22 mielenkiintoista, hauskaa, uskomatonta ja myös surullista faktaa Kambodzasta.

I have been living in Cambodia for 3 years now and still this country surprises me with it's cultural differences.

I fell in love with living here for many different reasons!

I wanted to share 22 interesting, fun, incredible and also sad facts about Cambodia with you.

1. Kambodzalaiset häät voivat kestää jopa viikon! Yleensä häät kestävät 3 päivää, mutta joissain tapauksissa niitä voidaan juhlia jopa viikon verran!


1. Cambodian weddings can last a week! Usually the wedding lasts for 3 days, but in some cases it can last a week!

2. Häät pidetään usein kadulla/kadunvarrella. Hääteltta pystytetään usein kadun varteen joka usein vie koko tien.

2. Weddings are often on the street / Streetside. The wedding tent is often set up along the street, often they fill the entire road.

3. Naiset menevät yleensä jo 22 ja miehet 25 vuotiaana naimisiin. Lomaromanssien kanssa kannattaa varoa jos ei halua päätyä naimisiin!


3. Women usually get married at the age of 22 and men at the age of 25.You should watch out if you get a holiday romance, if you don't want to get married!

4. Perus kuukausipalkka 200 USD. Vähimmäispalkka Kambodzassa on noin 170 USD kuukaudessa, mutta monet tienaavat vain 100 USD.

4. Basic monthly salary is 200 USD. The minimum wage in Cambodia is about 170 USD a month, but many can earn only 100 USD.

5. Bong tarkoittaa Kamnodzaksi veljeä/ystävää. Suorana käännöksenä Bong tarkoittaa veljeä, mutta Kambodzaan matkustaessa monet tulevat luultavasti kutsumaan sinua tällä sanalla, koska sillä viitataan melkein kehen vain siinä porukassa, joka on samaa ikäluokkaa.


5. The word Bong means brother / friend in Cambodia. In a literal translation, Bong means a brother, but when you travel to Cambodia, probably many will call you by this word because it refers to almost anyone in the group of the same age.
6. Kambodzalaiset rakastavat pukeutua pyjamiin. Minne vain ja milloin vain kävelet kadulla, vastaan tulee useita naisia sekä lapsia pukeutuen pyjamiin. Kansanmurhan aikana pukeuduttiin tummiin unisex pyjamiin ja tämän kaatumisen jälkeen pyjamat jäivät osaksi kulttuuria, tosin paljon värikkäämpinä.


6. Cambodians love to wear pyjamas. Wherever and whenever you walk down the street, many women and children are dress up in pyjamas. During the genocide, people worn dark unisex pajamas and after this fall, the pyjamas remained a part of the culture, but now they are much more colorful.

7. Viisumi on helppo saada! Olen kuullut että Kambodza on yksi helpoimmista maista maahanmuuttaa. Viisumin saa vain maksamalla ja se on todella helppo uusia. Kambodzaan on myös mahdollista saada 6kk viisumin jolla maasta voi lähteä ja palata takaisin samalla viisumilla. Monet muuttavat tänne naapuri maista viisumi vapauden takia.


7. Visa is very easy to get and I've heard that Cambodia is one of the easiest countries to relocate. You can get a visa just by paying and it's really easy to extend. It is also possible to get a 6 months multi-entry visa to Cambodia. Many people move here from neighboring countries because of the visa freedom.
8. Kiinalaiset sijoittivat yhteen kaupunkiin (Sihanoukville) 2,2 (USD) biljoonaa kerralla. Täältä löytyy nykyään enemmän kasinoita kuin Las Vegasista ja kiinalaiset omistavat 90% bisneksistä.

8. The Chinese invested 2.2 billion USD in one city (Sihanoukville). Today, there are more casinos than in Las Vegas, and the Chinese own now 90% of the businesses.

9. 70% enemmän kiinalaisia tuli Kambodzaan sijoitusten jälkeen. Saimme todistaa suuria protesteja sekä paikallisten vihaa tämän takia. Monia paikallisia menetti myös kotinsa Kiinalaisten sijoitusten takia.


9. 70% more Chinese came in Cambodia after that big investing. We were able to witness major protests and local hatred becose of this. Many locals also lost their homes due the Chinese investment.
10. Angor Wat on suurin uskonnollinen kompleksi maailmassa. Temppelialue on yli 200 hehtaaria suuri. 50 kertaa suurempi kuin Machu Picchu!

10. Angor Wat is the largest religious complex in the world. The temple area is over 200 hectares, 500 acers big. 50 times bigger than Machu Picchu!

11. Kampot Pippuri on maailman parhainta! Kambodzassa Kampotissa (Missä minä asun nyt!!!) on monia pippuritiloja joihin turistit pääsevät ilmaiseksi. Pippuri on ehdottomasti maailman parhainta!!


11. Kampot Pepper is the best in the world! In Kampot, Cambodia, (Where i live right now!!!) we have many pepper farms that tourists can visit for free. Pepper is definitely the best in the world!
12. Yksi kolmasosa väestöstä kuoli kansanmurhan aikana. Lähes 3 miljoonaa ihmistä teurastettiin ja tapettiin noin 40 vuotta sitten. Uskomatonta miten tämä tapahtui vain niin vähän aikaa sitten. Nuoret miehet maatiloilta värvättiin sotilaiksi, raha lopetettiin, khmerkulttuuri tyrehdytettiin, rajat suljettiin ja virastot, julkiset- ja koululaitokset lakkautettiin. Elämä loppui kirjaimellisesti. Raakojen kidutusten ja massatappojen lisäksi nälkä ja sairaudet tappoivat maassa, koska kaikki lukeneet, vähänkin viisaammat ihmiset tapettiin ensin, jopa ihmiset jotka käyttivät laseja, ja kaikkien näiden perheet myös.


12. One third of the population died during the genocide. Nearly 3 million people were slaughtered about 40 years ago. Incredible that this happend not so long ago... Young men from farms were recruited as soldiers, money was cut off, Khmer culture stopped, borders closed, and agencies, public and school institutions were abolished. Life literally ended here. During the brutal torture and mass killings, hunger and illness killed a lot of people too because all the readers. They killed all the wisest first, even the people who used glasses, and all of them families.

14. Kambodzassa ei ole yhtäkään McDonaldsia. Lähes kaikki muut pikaravintolaketjut löytyy mutta ei McDonaldsia! Ei sillä että sitä täällä edes kaipaisi...


14. There are no McDonalds in Cambodia. All other fast food chains are here, but no McDonald's! Not saying that i have missed it here...

15. Kambodzan lippu on kolmen muun valtion lipun lisäksi ainoa lippu maailmassa missä on rakennuksen kuva!


15. Cambodian flag and 3 other state flags are the only flags in the world where a building in it!

16. Kambodzalaiset uskovat että gekon siron laskeminen kertoo onnesta mennä naimisiin. Jos Gekko laulaa 7 kertaa samassa huoneessa, tämä on hyvää onnea!


16. Cambodians believe that counting the Gecko Siro is a sign of a luck to getting marriedIf Gekko sings 7 times in the same room where you are, its good luck!

17. Kambodzassa on 27 vapaa / juhlapäivää vuodessa. Kambodzalaiset rakastavat asiakkaiden juhlapäiviään! Täällä asuessa on huomannut että voit on saatavilla! Ainakin pari kuukaudessa.

19. Kambodzalaiset eivät usein juhli syntymäpäiviä. Syntymäpäivillä ei ole samanlaista merkitystä täällä kuin monissa muissa maissa.


19. Cambodians usually do not celebrate birthdays. Birthdays do not have the same significance here as in many other countries.

20. Hautajaisissa ruumis aina polttohaudataan, jonka jälkeen kaikki kerääntyvät yhteen puhdistamaan ja keräämään tuhkat ja luut. Tämä tapahtuu 3-7 päivän jälkeen hautajaisista. Tämän jälkeen ne viedään lähelle Buddhaa sekä munkkeja uudelleen syntymisen uskomisen takia.


20. At the funeral, the body is always cremated, after that everyone gather together to clean and collect ashes and bones. This happens after 3-7 days from the funeral. After that they take that near by Buddha and the monks becose they believe rebirth.

22. Hautajaisia pidetään todella tärkeinä! Mahdollisesti mielenkiintoisin tosiasia tässä on hämmästyttävä rahasumma joka käytetään hautajaisiin. Keskimääräiset kustannukset pyörivät 9 tuhannen USD ympärillä, ja jos paikallisen palkka on vain 100 USD, tämä tuntuu mahdottomalta, mutta se ei ole!


22. A funeral is considered to be very important! Perhaps the most interesting fact here is that they spend big amount money that to funerals. Average cost is around 9 000 USD, it seems impossible to people here who earn 100USD a month, but its not!
